Updated January 9, 2008

With the rapid approach of 2008, your YMCA staff,

volunteers, fellow members and participants are preparing to

celebrate a series of events commemorating the 150th

anniversary of the YMCA movement in Frederick. We will be

kicking off our celebration with a Community Prayer

Breakfast on Sunday, January 20th at the YMCA. We will also

be celebrating with many other events such as a birthday party

and a gala. The celebrations will be culminating with a week

of events in September. Details can be found on the website.

The YMCA of Frederick County is kicking off an initiative

that will focus on helping our county eliminate child obesity.

We are fortunate that Frederick County has so many

wonderful agencies and organizations that are committed to

the well-being of children and families in our community.

The Y has long partnered with these government entities,

agencies and other organizations to provide programs and

services that benefit children and families. It is our intention

to continue to focus our efforts on these partnerships and

activities and to increase our present programs and endeavors

so that we can work towards this goal.

As part of our efforts we are encouraging our members to

participate in physical activity as much as their schedule

allows. It is important that children see that adults are

participating in physical activity in order to encourage them to

emulate their behavior. Adults modeling healthy behavior can

help develop healthy attitudes towards physical well-being in

children. Take advantage of the indoor track, pools, open

gym time, the wellness center, para-fit courses, sports leagues,

5K runs, dance, gymnastics, karate, yoga, Pilates, aerobics and

any other activity that you enjoy and suites your schedule.

Participating in physical activity allows one to benefit, not

only in the health of the body, but also produces results that

affect the spirit and mind as well. In the hectic rush of today’s

world, often we do not take time to ensure our own health

and well-being. The YMCA is here for you to participate in

activities to create a healthy body, mind and spirit.
