The FCY Tidal Force is a competitive swim team which participates in both summer and winter leagues, and offers a spring competitive stroke clinic between seasons. We compete as a team in scored, dual meets during both seasons, with optional invitational meets also on the schedule.  All swimmers are required to participate in our dual meets, and are encouraged to attend any invitational meets that are offered.  Our head coaches are YMCA certified Level 1 and/or Level 2, and receive training in the latest techniques and trends in competitive swimming through the Eastern States Coaching Clinics.

The team is divided into several practice groups:  The Ripples, our younger, developing swimmers, practice twice a week and focus on improving their freestyle and backstroke technique. They are introduced to breaststroke and butterfly.  The Waves and Low Tide Groups work on refining all 4 strokes through the use of drills, and further develop the breaststroke and butterfly.  More conditioning work is introduced at this level.  These swimmers practice 2-3 times a week.  The High Tides are swimmers who are ready for a more challenging workout than the Low Tide group, but are not yet ready to move into our most advanced levels.  This group works on refining stroke technique using advanced drills, will spend additional time on conditioning, and practice 3-4 times a week.  Our most advanced levels, The Rip Tides and The Force, swim all four strokes properly and have a high level of endurance.  All strokes continue to be refined using advanced drills and techniques.  Conditioning sets are a major part of their practice session.  These swimmers practice 4-5 times a week.  All practice groups participate together in dual meets and most of our invitational meets.

Parent helpers are critical to the successful management of our team. All parents are asked to help out in some capacity at most meets, and are also asked to contribute to the team through a non-meet job, such as running a social activity or overseeing a fundraiser.
